Saturday, January 2, 2010 DONATE LIFE FLOAT "NEW LIFE RISES" WINS THEME AWARD IN 2010 ROSE PARADE
http://www.alexoloughlinfansfordonatelife.com/2010/01/donate-life-float-new-life-rises-wins.html am 02.01.2010 um 22:47 (UTC)
According to the (as of yet) KTLA unofficial awards list of winners from the 2010 Rose Parade, the Donate Life America Float "New Life Rises" has won the Theme Award.

Here's the description of the float (sources: KTLA.com and DonateLifeFloat.org):

FLOAT THEME: New Life Rises
When organ, eye and tissue donors save and heal lives, New Life Rises to give hope to individuals, families and communities in need.

With its soaring phoenix and memorial to organ, eye and tissue donors, New Life Rises has a message of hope and inspiration that is “a cut above the rest.” Giving life and healing to others has no equal.

New Life Rises when people say yes to organ and tissue donation and lives are renewed through transplantation. This is the very essence of Donate Life’s mission. We hope the beauty and boldness of our float inspires parade spectators and viewers to rise up and join the more than 82 million Americans who have registered as organ, eye and tissue donors.

FLOAT BUILDER: Phoenix Decorating Co.

FLOAT DESCRIPTION:
Height: 29’
Width: 18'
Length: 55'

Donate Life’s seventh Rose Parade entry features the mythical phoenix, a symbol of life emerging from the ashes of death, that represents those who give life in their passing and the lives renewed through transplantation. The bird soars high above 24 float riders – all transplant recipients and family members of deceased donors – seated along a Wall of Names inspired by the National Donor Memorial in Richmond, Va. The phoenix’s tail feathers are adorned with dozens of floragraphs – portraits created with floral materials – that depict loved ones who gave life to those in need. In addition, donors across the country are memorialized in a garden of dedicated roses, with each rose vial carrying a personal message of love, hope and remembrance.

The central figure of Donate Life’s new creation is a phoenix, the mythical symbol of life coming out of the ashes of death, rising from a bed of flames into the sky to represent the renewal of life through donation and transplantation. The bird’s tail is comprised of “floragraph feathers” adorned with portraits of deceased organ, eye and tissue donors. The Wall of Names runs the length of the float and the Wall of Tears encircles the dedicated roses at each end to represent the diversity of organ, eye and tissue donors throughout America and the family members who loved them.

FLOWERING:
The skyward-rising Phoenix Bird is feathered with silverleaf and white everlasting on its head, with red, orange and yellow strawflower plumage on its body. The bird’s tail is made up of 77 floragraphs featuring portraits of organ, eye and tissue donors and supporters of Donate Life which are created by donor and recipient families using a varied palette of organic materials including farina, cinnamon, ground strawberry seed, chili powder, ground coffee bean, parsley flakes, strawflower, palm fiber, seeds and spices. (Approximately 30 of the floragraphs are being shipped with decorating materials to families in several states around the country to enable them to participate in the creation of the portraits honoring their loved ones. The floragraphs will be returned to the families following their journey through the Rose Parade.) The flames from which the Phoenix Bird rises are aglow with yellow, white, orange, red, green and purple chrysanthemum, blue statice, and green bells of Ireland. Beneath the flames is a bed of purple, pink and lavender roses, daisies and carnations. The dedication walls surrounding the cauldron are decorated with fine ground rice with light lettuce seed grout, with lettuce seed and powdered onion seed lettering. Donors, recipients and transplant candidates from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and many countries worldwide are memorialized in a garden of roses dedicated through the Donate Life Family Circle program, with each rose vial carrying a personal message of love, hope and remembrance. The Family Circle Garden at the front and rear of the float contains yellow, orange and gold roses. The base of the float is covered with sod, roses, daisies and carnations accented with floral arrangements including orchids, gladiolus, roses, bells of Ireland, billy buttons, anthuriums, birds of paradise and magdalena ting.

Donors, recipients and transplant candidates from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and many countries worldwide are memorialized in a garden of roses dedicated through the Donate Life Family Circle program, with each rose vial carrying a personal message of love, hope and remembrance.

Congratulations to all the wonderful people who created and presented the beautiful and inspiring Donate Life Float.
Happy New Year to you and all the wonderful people following and contributing to our blog!

I’m still miffed that ‘Three Rivers‘ was canceled. Are we ever going to see the unaired episodes? – Stephanie

At this time CBS has no plans to burn off those last episodes. But knowing how avid Alex O’Loughlin’s fans can be, I’m actively laboring to get him a new gig. The first show in my crosshairs: NBC’s ‘Chuck.’ “That could be very good,” Yvonne Strahovski concurred when I suggested that her longtime Aussie pal drop by, perhaps as a new dude to make Chuck jealous. “Yeah, that’s a fun idea!” she added. Hey, I’m trying.

Bis jetzt hat CBS noch keine Pläne die letzten TR-Episoden zu zeigen.

Danke Eva!

Ask Matt: A Family Comedy Comeback?

Frage:

Ask Matt: A Family Comedy Comeback?
http://www.tvguidemagazine.com/ask-matt/ask-matt-a-family-comedy-comeback-3574.html

Question: I'm sure there's a reason and I'd love it if you could tell me what the reason is because I can't, for the life of me, figure it out. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Why in the world don't networks just simply move a show that's been canceled to a different night? There are TONS of examples, but the latest one is Three Rivers. It was on opposite Desperate Housewives, and isn't that a very popular top-rated show? Seems Three Rivers would certainly be more popular and might have lasted if it was just moved to another night.—Melissa

Matt Roush: On the other hand, when a network moves a struggling show around the schedule, fans tend to gripe they’ve made it impossible to keep track of the show (even in a DVR age) and use that as an argument to blame the network for a show’s failure. The situation with CBS and Three Rivers is complicated by the fact that CBS has so few problem spots on its lineup, and no way does a network this solid sacrifice a hit show to prop up a show with so little potential upside. The most likely scenario, if CBS had decided to give the show a second chance, would probably have been to try it on Friday, and that would have been even more disastrous. I’m not sure Housewives was as big a deterrent for Three Rivers to catch on than going up against big football games on NBC and the usual overrun problem in so many markets when CBS’s late-afternoon football games go long.
