Kevin Rahm, one half of Desperate Housewives' resident gay couple checks into CBS' transplant drama Three Rivers, guest-starring as John Warren, a billionaire cell-phone maker with a “doesn’t plan for failure” outlook on life. So when his beloved do-gooder wife Tracy falls ill, it’s a no-brainer to seek care from the preeminent medical staff at Three Rivers, where the couple is shocked to learn from Dr. Sophia Jordan that Tracy needs a new liver ASAP.
After getting their hopes up by a potential match, then dashed when it’s discovered the liver is bad, John decides to take matters into his own filthy rich hands, ditching Sophia for a surgeon in Zurich, where Tracy receives a liver from a Chinese prisoner who was executed for his organs. OM-freakin'-G! Has he gone too far? Hell yeah! Luckily Sophia isn’t the judgy type and doesn’t refuse to treat Tracy (as nurse Pam suggests) when she’s admitted again with complications from her hubby’s black market procurement.
This leads to one of two instances where the docs seem to be moonlighting as relationship counselors. John turns to Sophia for advice on how to fix his marriage after going against everything his humanitarian spouse stands for. All seems pretty easily forgiven—I guess living with guilt is better than being dead.
Meanwhile, Andy and Miranda treat a young couple who recently eloped and already feel like the honeymoon is over. Husband Nick (The Wire’s Pablo Schreiber) pierced an artery after passing out and falling down some stairs. His wound is fixed easily, but Miranda and Andy have difficulty figuring out why he lost consciousness in the first place. When his wife, Beth, is brought in after a similar incident, Miranda concludes something in their environment must be making them sick—and, it turns out, is the reason why they’ve been fighting so much. So all you bickering couples out there, before filing for divorce, check first that your house didn’t used to be a meth lab, because that just might be the problem.
Finally, while CBS moving Three Rivers from 9pm to 10pm (really 10:30 pm with the 30-minute delay because of the football game) didn’t seem to improve the show’s ratings, I’m sure diehard fans were pleased with all of the Andy backstory to sink their teeth into.
The normally unflappable Andy seemed thrown for a loop when a man named Michael (William Sadler) called out of the blue and wanted to meet at a dive bar. We learn from parolee Michael that Andy used to pick locks and break into houses. Michael claims to have gone legit (do you believe him?), and wants a place back in Andy’s life. So is that why he anonymously donated $131,000 to Kuol’s heart transplant fund?
I guess what I want to know from you is the same thing Andy asked of Michael: “What do you think that money is going to buy?” Leave your answers below!

CBS Films, TMG sign output deal

BERLIN – CBS Films and Tele Muenchen Group have inked an output deal for German-speaking territories that includes up to seven pics a year, including the upcoming Harrison Ford starrer “Extraordinary Measures.”
The agreement, which comprises titles budgeted at between $20 million and $75 million, includes all rights for Germany and Austria, and DVD and TV in German-speaking Switzerland.
In Germany, all of the films will be released by TMG subsidiaries Concorde Filmverleih and Concorde Home Entertainment. TMG will handle distribution in Austria and Switzerland directly.
The German-speaking region is the only international territory other than Canada that CBS Films carved out of its all-encompassing foreign distribution deal with Sony Pictures. CBS Films will distribute all of the covered pics in the U.S. with Sony handling all other international territories aside from Canada.
The Tom Vaughan-directed “Extraordinary Measures,” which also stars Brendan Fraser and Keri Russell, will be the first release under the pact. Pic opens Stateside on Jan. 22.
Additional titles include Alan Poul’s “The Back-Up Plan,” starring Jennifer Lopez, and Daniel Barnz’s teen fantasy “Beastly,” with Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens.
Deal was negotiated on behalf of CBS by prexy and CEO Leslie Moonves, chief operating officer Bruce Tobey and exec VP and general counsel Rik Toulon and, for TMG, by owner and managing director Herbert Kloiber, Thomas Augsberger and Philip Loehr.
TMG and Concorde are enjoying stratospheric success following a 2007 output deal with Summit Ent. that included rights to the “Twilight” franchise.
With a box office of some $25 million, “Twilight” has become one of Germany’s biggest hits of the year and “New Moon” is likely to surpass the original when it opens here on Thursday.
